Project Goals & Challenges
Client’s Vision
Creating a space that is expandable for the Jiujitsu classes over the years while offering a communal area that is comfortable for the Jiujitsu students and their parents to spend time together before and after the class sessions.
Main Challenges
-
The previous tenant was a gym and they had layers of flooring including cement, ceramic and PVC flooring making it challenging for us to do epoxy flooring.
-
A plumbing structure was also built in the middle of the whole space making it a challenge for us to build proper plumbing lines for the public Restrooms and Shower Rooms.
-
As the space has floor to ceiling for windows, we had to build railings to protect the windows from any potential foul play or accidents during the Jiujitsu classes.
-
Additionally, the space has no universal air conditioning in place, so we had to integrate our own air conditioning system to make sure that the space is well ventilated.
Unique Aspects
This project was special to Kita Design Co. because it is the first business project that we helped our client to build as part of his own Jiujitsu brand expansion that he had managed to get the exclusive partnership for with the Alliance Jiujitsu in the United Kingdom.

Brand Identity Integration
SATTVA has a meaning of the quality of balance, harmony, goodness, purity, holistic, serenity, being-ness, peaceful, virtuous. With the design concept being a Japandi, it perfectly translates the whole meaning of SATTVA. As for the other meanings of SATTVA which are good constructive, creative, and building positive attitude; completely reflects the essence of raw industrialistic look where it represents how rocky challenges builds someone’s characteristics.
Functional Layout
We specifically designed the space where the communal area is right at the entrance of the space so that people can come and go as they please. Whereas the Jiujitsu mattress are next to the communal area so whenever the class has started, the parents can view their children in action. Public Restrooms and Shower Rooms are also nearby so that students can quickly access the shower right after their class.
